CeD3 Project Updates - June 2014

Back to Project Updates
Reporting Period
20 May - 24 June 2014

Status Summary
The build of the Staging Database and layer one ETL is still in progress.  Dan is working with Sydney, Townsville and Canberra Goulburn offices as trials for the data schema and build design.  There have been some issues with Sydney in providing the data, and some delays with Canberra-Goulburn due to staff availability.

Work is in progress on the data mart design and build and ETL for layer two.

An appointment for the position of data analyst has been made.  Bradley (Brad) Dixon
has been appointed and will commence at CEnet on 14 July.

Following communications with the Key Contacts about the preliminary work they will need to do there have been six dioceses complete the questionnaire.  Initial indications are that they will need support to complete the tasks required to deliver the data.

Corrective Actions Undertaken
The provision of the required data from Sydney has become an issue and Dan has been sent to Sydney for a few days to work with their DBA to assist in ETL.

Next Reporting Period
The next period will see:
  • refining the design and build of the staging database,
  • refining the first ETL layer, and
  • the completion of testing using data from Sydney and Canberra-Goulburn
  • testing ETL with Townsville,
  • consultations with dioceses re data preparation
  • commencement of Data Analyst.

Products to be completed

Corrective Actions
Modify scope to include only those dioceses that have data in a state that can be uploaded into their Staging DB within the project timeline.

Project and Stage Tolerance Status
The project is well within budget.
The completion date for delivery has been set back by 4-6 weeks to mid Term Four 2014.

Key Issues and Risks
(Summary of actual or potential problems and risks)
The two trial dioceses have been slow in their delivery of data either because of skill issues or staff availability. Action has been taken to assist the diocesan staff however this has required more time from Dan in support which has slowed development work. The timeline is still at risk.  The option of additional DBA at CEnet was considered but the “onboarding” time and effort required meant this action would not improve the timeline.

Lessons Report (if appropriate)
