CeD3 Project Updates - December 2013

Back to Project Updates
Date of Status Report
10/12/13

Period Covered
22/10/13 - 10/12/13

Status Summary
As previously reported the Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) provided a copy of their database structure and an initial analysis has been undertaken with CSC.  This has been limited by the information provided and a request was made to BCE for a Data Dictionary and/or some de-identified data.  There was no data dictionary and much of the analysis of the schema and structure has been undertaken by CSC and the Team. Documentation is partially completed and expected to be finished for the key student and school tables by 20 December. These tables have been the focus to ensure the initial priority reports can be provided.

The SQL build was completed and a cross check provided by CSC DBAs. One minor change was suggested and will be implemented by 20 December.

NSIP staff have been consulted about the design and schema to ensure SIFAU compatibility.

The advertising for a DBA resulted in two applicants being interviewed.  One of these proved to be an appropriate appointment and an offer was made and accepted.  The person was not as experienced as might have been desired but has great potential for development.  CEnet will be seeking to extend the engagement with CSC to support the new member at CEnet expense not project costs.

CEnet CEO and CIO, and Jeff Gunn met with Mike Byrne, Executive Director of the QCEC, at his request.  Apart from general CEnet business the CED3 project was discussed and similar matters addressed as Doug and I had done with the CECNSW.  Mike was very happy to be involved in any data exchange to enhance the reporting from QCEC or the reporting available to the dioceses.  Greg Parrish will arrange for Qld directors to write to Mike confirming the agreement.

A similar meeting was held with the Executive Director of the CECNSW Brian Croke.  CEnet was represented by Greg Parrish and Vicki Anderson.  The discussions were mainly about the CED3 Project and CECNSW’s involvement.  Brian was very positive and agreed to assist with data provision.  CEnet also offered to assist with IDAM linkages to improve CEC’s identification of principals and other users of their online systems for schools and dioceses.  A letter to Brian, confirming the arrangements will be sent from the directors via Peter Turner.

Key Issues and Risks
(Summary of actual or potential problems and risks)
The main risk is the appropriate design of the DBMS.  This will be mitigated by a review of the BCE database.
A decision will need to be made as to whether to pursue the BCE BI solution.

Lessons Report (if appropriate)
(A review of what went well, what went badly, and any recommendations for corporate or programme management consideration)
