CeD3 Project Updates - April 2014
Back to Project Updates
Reporting Period
14 March - 10 April 2014
Status Summary
In this period work has been focussed on finalising the potential reports and work has been continuing on the design and build of the Staging Database and ETL for this first layer. This is near completion. Work has commenced on the pilot ETL for diocese DB to CED3 Diocesan Staging DB. Wollongong is the diocese involved.
There has been an initial review of potential BI tools using the new 2014 Gartner report and discussions with the NOAC Data Warehouse Technical Project Manager about their assessment of potential tools for their project. Some insight has been provided from their detailed analysis and also the subsequent RFQ. There has also been a follow-up with Tableau to gain information on the licencing and costs for their product.
The outcome of the above investigations has been detailed in the document “BI Software Procurement Briefing to the IT Steering Committee”.
An advertisement for the second CEnet person to support the CED3, the Data Analyst, has been distributed to members and published.

Corrective Actions
The Quality Register will be updated to include more detailed products related to the service and support program required for CEnet.
Modify scope to include only those dioceses that have data in a state that can be uploaded into their Staging DB within the project timeline.
Project and Stage Tolerance Status
The project is within budget.
The completion date for delivery remains the beginning of Term Four 2014. This has been advised to members.
Requests for Change
Key Issues and Risks
(Summary of actual or potential problems and risks)
The next phase is heavily dependent on the commitment from the pilot diocese to provide resources to complete the work in the required period. Use of multiple dioceses mitigates the risk as all do not have to complete the program of work for the project to move to the next set of tasks.
The program of work is also dependent on having the assistance of a couple of technical people from one of the first four dioceses to complete the upload to support the other dioceses with their data loads. This is yet to be finalised and if it is not achieved will have a negative impact on the delivery for the other dioceses.
Lessons Report (if appropriate)
(A review of what went well, what went badly, and any recommendations for corporate or programme management consideration)
Projects need to have the CEnet service and support elements included in the Quality Register.
